### Steelers Acquire Veteran Linebacker Preston Smith in Trade with Packers

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their defensive lineup, the Pittsburgh Steelers have secured linebacker Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers. The trade, which is contingent on Smith passing a physical, involves the Steelers giving up a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Smith, now in his 10th NFL season, brings a wealth of experience and proven on-field performance to Pittsburgh. Over his career, he has appeared in 155 games and started in 138 of them. Accumulating 425 tackles, including 265 solo, Smith has also achieved 71 tackles for a loss and 68.5 sacks. His additional stats comprise 155 quarterback hurries, 27 passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and five interceptions.

Drafted as the 38th overall pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2015 NFL Draft, Smith spent his first four seasons in Washington, playing in 64 games and recording 24.5 sacks along with 29 tackles for losses. He joined the Packers in 2019 and made an immediate impact, setting a career-high with 12 sacks in his first season there. Over his six seasons in Green Bay, he appeared in 91 games and compiled 44 sacks, along with a career-high 75 tackles in 2019.

Smith's collegiate career at Mississippi State saw him earning first-team All-SEC honors and setting records as the first player to be named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for three consecutive weeks.

Additionally, the Steelers announced roster changes which include the release of tight end Rodney Williams from the 53-man roster, as well as wide receiver Andy Isabella and linebacker Craig Young from the practice squad.
