**Aaron Rodgers to Wear No. 8 as He Joins the Steelers**
Aaron Rodgers has made his decision and will don the No. 8 jersey for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. The 41-year-old quarterback joins the team in what has been a highly anticipated move, which the Steelers confirmed through a social media post. Steelers punter Corliss Waitman, who previously wore No. 8, will switch to No. 3 for the upcoming season, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Rodgers is no stranger to the No. 8 jersey, having worn it during his two-season stint with the New York Jets. Before that, Rodgers famously wore No. 12 during his 18-year career with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers' signing with the Steelers concludes a lengthy period of speculation following his departure from the Jets in February.
The quarterback's contract with Pittsburgh is a one-year deal worth $13.65 million, with $10 million guaranteed and performance incentives that could potentially raise the total value to $19.5 million. Rodgers agreed to the terms on Thursday and finalized the contract on Saturday.
Rodgers' time with the Jets was marred by challenges, including a season-ending Achilles injury during his first game with the team in 2023. Rodgers played only 18 games over two seasons for the Jets, a far cry from his decorated tenure with Green Bay. Tensions were reportedly high between Rodgers and Jets management, especially with new head coach Aaron Glenn.
Rodgers recounted his last meeting with Glenn during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" in April. Rodgers described the conversation as abrupt, saying Glenn quickly exited to fetch general manager Darren Mougey after barely starting the talk. "That was kind of strange," Rodgers remarked. He had flown across the country for what he anticipated to be a significant discussion, only to be told the team was going in a different direction at quarterback.
Now with the Steelers, Rodgers looks set to start a new chapter in Pittsburgh, hoping to leave behind the disappointments from his time with the Jets and once again showcase the skills that made him a four-time MVP.
