In a surprising move, actor and comedian Pete Davidson has announced his departure from the planned second season of his semi-autobiographical comedy series, 'Bupkis'. The show, which aired on Peacock, provided a glimpse into Davidson's personal life and struggles. Davidson expressed his desire to tell his story his way, away from the constant media attention he has faced for almost a decade.

Sharing his thoughts with The Hollywood Reporter, Davidson spoke about his pride in 'Bupkis' being the work he is most proud of, emphasizing its honest, funny, and heartfelt portrayal of his experiences. The actor expressed his gratitude to the show's creators, cast, and crew for their involvement in bringing the series to life. However, Davidson also stated that he feels this chapter of his life has come to a close, expressing his excitement for the next stage of his career.

According to sources, Davidson's agent recently informed Peacock about his decision, though Broadway Video, the production company behind the show, was left out of the loop. Production was originally scheduled to commence in New York during the summer. Despite speculation of industry-wide budget cuts playing a role, sources indicate that Davidson's departure from 'Bupkis' was not related to these issues.

Peacock had given a green light to 'Bupkis' for a second season back in June 2023, just two months after the show's initial premiere. The comedy series has received positive reviews, boasting a 78 percent rating from critics and an impressive 90 percent score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. 'Bupkis' followed Davidson, playing a fictionalized version of himself, as he navigated his family dynamics, fame, and the pursuit of meaningful relationships. Accompanying Davidson in the cast were acclaimed actors Edie Falco and Joe Pesci, who portrayed his mother and grandfather on the show.

Back in April 2022, Peacock secured 'Bupkis' with a straight-to-series order, following an intense bidding war among various streaming platforms. Davidson's rise to fame began with his work on 'Saturday Night Live', where he became the show's youngest-ever cast member. Davidson collaborated with his 'Bupkis' co-creator Dave Sirus on multiple sketches there, and the pair also co-wrote the Universal Pictures film 'The King of Staten Island', alongside Judd Apatow. Judah Miller, another 'Bupkis' co-creator, served as an executive producer on the 2020 dramedy, which drew inspiration from Davidson's own life.

While fans of 'Bupkis' may be disappointed by Davidson's departure, they will undoubtedly be eager to see what the multi-talented comedian has in store for his next venture. As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, Pete Davidson's decision marks a significant shift in his career journey, leaving viewers and industry insiders eagerly anticipating what comes next for the rising star.
