Wisconsin has made a significant addition to its coaching staff, as longtime NFL coach Jack Del Rio has been hired as a senior adviser to Badgers head coach Luke Fickell. The team confirmed this news on Thursday.

Del Rio brings with him a wealth of experience from his time as a coach in the NFL. He previously served as the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders. Until recently, Del Rio held the position of defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders before being let go in November.

The 61-year-old coach will have a versatile role at Wisconsin, working closely with both the offense and defense. His primary responsibility will be to assist Coach Fickell in implementing effective strategies and techniques to improve the team's performance.

Del Rio is a former standout linebacker who played for the University of Southern California before embarking on his NFL career. Throughout his coaching journey, he has gained valuable experience in different defensive coordinator roles, including stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.

Coach Fickell had initially hoped to have his close friend and former teammate at Ohio State, Mike Vrabel, join the Wisconsin program this season. However, Vrabel is currently engaged as a coaching and personnel consultant for the Cleveland Browns.

The Wisconsin Badgers are optimistic that Del Rio's extensive NFL background and expertise will provide a valuable and fresh perspective to their coaching staff. Excitement is building as the team prepares to kick off their second season under Coach Fickell, and Del Rio's arrival adds fuel to the anticipation. The Badgers' first challenge will be against Western Michigan on Friday.

With Del Rio now on board, the Wisconsin Badgers look forward to a successful season and the positive impact he will have on the team's performance on both offense and defense.
