**Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux Out Week-to-Week Following Wrist Surgery**
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - New York Giants' standout edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is now considered "week-to-week" after undergoing wrist surgery on Wednesday morning. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the news during a media briefing, citing a fractured scaphoid bone as the reason for the surgery.
Last season, Thibodeaux was a dominant force with 11.5 sacks. This season, he has managed to record two sacks and seven quarterback hits before his injury. When asked about Thibodeaux's recovery time, Daboll refrained from providing a specific timeline. "I'm not going to give you a timeline or anything like that," Daboll stated. "I would just say he's week-to-week. I'm encouraged with what I've heard, but you never know."
There is still uncertainty whether Thibodeaux will be placed on injured reserve (IR), a move that would sideline him for a minimum of four games. "Anytime anybody gets injured, you never want to see that," Daboll said empathetically. "But he'll rehab and do the things he needs to do to be ready to go."
According to Pro Football Focus, Thibodeaux ranks 21st among 53 qualifying edge defenders, boasting 10 hurries, a pass rush pressure rate of 6.1%, and a pass rush win rate of 13.5%. In his absence, Azeez Ojulari, a second-round pick from the 2021 draft, is expected to take on a larger role. Ojulari has also been affected by injuries but has remained healthy in 2024. He has logged one sack and ten tackles in 114 defensive snaps this season.
"Azeez has been good for us," Daboll praised. "He'll be important if Kayvon's not there. Whether it's Boogie [Basham], Pat [Johnson], whoever it may be, we have confidence in the guys." Basham has been inactive throughout the season, and Johnson, recently acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, played just one defensive snap last week.
On other injury updates, wide receiver Malik Nabers, still in concussion protocol, is labeled as "day-to-day" by Daboll. He will practice off to the side with the training staff. Running back Devin Singletary, who missed the game against Seattle due to a groin injury, is expected to practice on a limited basis. Guard Greg Van Roten will receive a veteran rest day after playing his best game against Seattle, while guard Jon Runyan Jr. is sidelined due to illness.
Additionally, WR/KR Gunner Olszewski and linebacker Dyontae Johnson, both on IR with groin and ankle injuries respectively, are eligible to return but are not yet ready to begin practicing. Daboll noted they are "getting close" but opted for a cautious approach.
