In preparation for the upcoming NFL season, the New England Patriots have made several transactions to finalize their 53-man roster. Among the moves, veteran offensive tackle Calvin Anderson has been released with an injury designation.

According to a report from The Boston Globe's Chris Price, the Patriots let go of Anderson just before the league's roster deadline on Tuesday. The 28-year-old tackle was held out of the preseason finale against the Washington Commanders after playing 53 offensive snaps in previous August matchups.

Anderson's 2023 campaign was marred by health issues. He started the season on the non-football illness list due to malaria and later ended up on injured reserve due to a heart contusion suffered in practice. Despite these setbacks, Anderson managed to make five appearances and two starts on the offensive line.

Originally joining the team as an undrafted rookie in 2019, the 6-foot-5, 305-pound athlete played in 41 games, starting 12, before leaving as a free agent. He also had stints with the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos before returning to New England.

In addition to Anderson's departure, the Patriots have also waived wide receiver David Wallis and defensive end Jotham Russell, as reported by Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Wallis, a 23-year-old product of Division III Randolph-Macon College, signed with the team in June after attending rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. During the preseason, he showcased his skills on special teams, recording two catches for 16 yards and returning kickoffs for a total of 275 yards.

Meanwhile, Russell, a 20-year-old player from Australia, participated in the NFL's International Player Pathway program. The 6-foot-4, 239-pound former Australian rugby player underwent a conversion to defensive end and earned a spot on the Patriots' 90-man roster exemption. Prior to his involvement with the program, Russell played for the under-21 teams of the Currumbin Eagles and Tweed Seagulls, in addition to being a part of the development squad of the Brisbane Broncos.
