**Navy Athletics and Under Armour Reveal 2024 Army-Navy Game Uniform Honoring Jolly Rogers**
In an exciting development for the upcoming Army-Navy game, Navy Athletics in collaboration with Under Armour has unveiled the 2024 game uniform dedicated to the esteemed Jolly Rogers. The 125th Army-Navy Game, slated for December 14 at the Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, will kick off at 3 PM and will be broadcasted nationwide on CBS.
The Jolly Rogers squadron, established in 1943, has a rich and storied history as one of the most formidable and respected units in Naval Aviation. Their insignia, the Skull and Crossbones, and their callsign "Victory," are internationally recognized and symbolize their unmatched prowess and tradition of excellence. This upcoming tribute marks the second time the Navy football team has honored the Jolly Rogers, with the previous occasion led by Roger Staubach in a victorious 1962 game against the Cadets.
The new uniform echoes the iconic design and colors associated with the Jolly Rogers aircraft. The dark Navy blue of the jersey neck and the incorporation of the Jolly Rogers insignia reflect the tail design of the aircraft. Additionally, the uniform collar striping and the Navy wordmark are inspired by elements found on the squadron’s aircraft, while the uniform numbers mimic the side number and trailing edge flap of the planes.
Further details of the uniform showcase symbolic references to the Jolly Rogers' history. Each sleeve is adorned with angled stripes, including nine chevrons, representing the nine aircraft types flown by the squadron. The phrase "Fear the Bones" discreetly details the interior collar, while the locker tag draws inspiration from the VF-84 tail fin design with a JR composition. The pant side panels feature microtext honoring the six squadrons that have upheld the Skull and Crossbones emblem.
The helmet design merges past and present Jolly Rogers aviator helmets, featuring iconic chevrons and the skull on the sides. Additionally, chevrons representing the nine aircraft types the Jolly Rogers have flown are embedded in the striping of the helmet. The helmet bumper proudly displays the tagline "Fear the Bones," with a reflective white base coat representing VFA-103's helmet.
This tribute uniform not only celebrates the legacy of the Jolly Rogers but also stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and excellence of the Navy’s proud aviation history.
