In response to a concerning concussion suffered by starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins have made a move to strengthen their quarterback room. Following Thursday's loss to the Bills, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that the team would be adding another quarterback to the depth chart. On Monday, the Dolphins acquired Tyler "Snoop" Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.

While McDaniel declared that Skylar Thompson would be the starting quarterback for Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, he emphasized the importance of having someone with starting experience on the team. Huntley gained recognition after making the Pro Bowl in 2022, despite only playing in six games for the Ravens as an injury replacement for Lamar Jackson. Although Huntley's performance was average in those games, he played a crucial role in keeping the Ravens' playoff hopes alive and helping them secure a postseason berth.

Interestingly, Huntley's Pro Bowl selection came as a result of a series of circumstances with starters and alternates dropping out. Both Lamar Jackson and Tua Tagovailoa were forced to withdraw from the Pro Bowl due to injuries, ultimately paving the way for Huntley's selection as the seventh option.

Prior to joining the Dolphins, Huntley started a total of nine games for the Ravens between 2021 and 2023. He briefly joined the Cleveland Browns during the offseason but was ultimately released before the season began. The Ravens then reclaimed Huntley and added him to their practice squad for the first two weeks of the 2024 season.

From a strategic standpoint, Huntley's addition brings an interesting dynamic to the Dolphins' quarterback room. Alongside Skylar Thompson, who possesses some mobility, Huntley brings even more athleticism to the team. While neither quarterback is expected to set the field ablaze, their similar styles may allow Coach McDaniel to design a versatile playbook, depending on the hot hand.

Although the length of Tua Tagovailoa's absence remains uncertain, the Dolphins are focused on prioritizing his long-term health and recovery. It is essential not to rush him back into action before he is fully ready. With that in mind, acquiring Huntley ensures that the team has a backup plan in place, given the unpredictable timeline for Tagovailoa's return.

Despite the challenges faced by injuries on the defensive side of the ball during the preseason, the Miami Dolphins are determined to remain competitive. As history has shown, the team managed to make the playoffs and put up a fight against the Bills in 2022, even with Thompson at quarterback in place of an injured Tagovailoa.

With the addition of Tyler "Snoop" Huntley, the Dolphins have taken a proactive approach in strengthening their quarterback depth. While their focus remains on the health and well-being of Tua Tagovailoa, having Huntley and Thompson as viable options provides the team with a sense of security and versatility moving forward.
