In a recent interview with RuPaul on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", Maya Rudolph playfully hinted at the possibility of reprising her role as Vice President Kamala Harris on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL). The news of Rudolph's return had earlier made headlines on July 31, sparking excitement among fans of both the actress and the late-night sketch show.

Although Rudolph did not confirm her return during the interview, she responded to RuPaul's question regarding a potential SNL appearance by saying, "Interesting that you brought this up, because no one has asked me." The comedian first portrayed Kamala Harris on SNL's September 28, 2019, episode, hosted by Woody Harrelson.

Reflecting on her experience playing the vice president, Rudolph acknowledged the significance of the role, stating, "I've never experienced something like this in any of the work I've done...this has been such a tremendous, exciting time for me that feels so much bigger than me or anything I've ever done."

Having been a cast member on SNL from 2000 to 2007, Rudolph has since gone on to star in movies like "Bridesmaids" and currently appears in the Apple TV+ show "Loot," where she portrays a billionaire character. Despite claiming that no official approach had been made by SNL producer Lorne Michaels to return to Rockefeller Center stage, Rudolph seemed enthusiastic about reprising her role as Harris.

The Emmy-winning actress expressed her disbelief at the opportunity, stating, "I would never have believed you if you'd said one day you're going to be playing the presidential candidate...To think that I had anything to do with this by association is mind-blowing."

Rudolph's portrayal of Kamala Harris gained widespread acclaim, particularly during the 2020 presidential race. Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden announced his departure from the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris shortly thereafter.

In a separate interview on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known for her role as Selina Meyer on the show "Veep," addressed comparisons between her fictional character and Harris. Louis-Dreyfus emphasized that Harris was not similar to Meyer, describing Meyer as a "narcissistic, megalomaniac sociopath" and clarifying that the description might apply to "another candidate in the race."

As the anticipation for Maya Rudolph's potential return to SNL grows, fans of the sketch comedy show eagerly wait to see if the talented actress will reprise her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite the uncertainty, Rudolph's enthusiasm for portraying the historical figure feeds the excitement surrounding this potential comeback.
