In exciting news for fans of the beloved film "Freaky Friday," a sequel is on its way to theaters nationwide in 2025. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis will be returning to reprise their roles, with filming for the sequel having just begun in Los Angeles.

Directed by Nisha Ganatra, known for her work on "Late Night," the sequel takes place several years after the body-switching ordeal of Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan). Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, and together they navigate the challenges that arise when two families merge. According to the film's synopsis, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.

Joining Lohan and Curtis in the sequel are familiar faces Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray, who will also be reprising their roles. The cast will be joined by newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, adding fresh talent to the ensemble.

Notably, several actors from the original 2003 film will also make their return, including Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Their presence will surely please fans who have been eagerly awaiting this sequel.

The production team includes producer Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Executive producers for the film are Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan herself.

"Freaky Friday" is based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel and was a box office success, grossing $160 million worldwide, with $110 million from the domestic market. For Lindsay Lohan, this film marks her return to theaters after a hiatus, during which she starred in back-to-back Netflix romantic comedies.
