Apple's highly anticipated release of iPadOS 18 turned into a nightmare for some M4 iPad Pro owners. Following the update, several iPads mysteriously stopped turning on, prompting Apple to suspend the availability of iPadOS 18 for the affected models.

According to reports from 9to5Mac, the over-the-air (OTA) update for iPadOS 18 is no longer accessible for this year's iPad Pro models equipped with the M4 chip. Apple has also ceased signing the IPSW files required to restore the M4 iPad Pro using the iPadOS 18 firmware. Other devices, however, do not seem to be affected, as the update remains available for them.

Multiple users on platforms like Reddit and Apple's Discussion Forums have shared their frustration, stating that their iPads ceased functioning after installing iPadOS 18. One user explained that their iPad shut down during the update process and has been completely unresponsive since then. Even attempts to restore the iPad software using a computer have proven unsuccessful.

One user shared their experience, stating, "I took it to the Apple Store, and they confirmed that it's completely bricked. However, they informed me that they need to send it out to their engineers for evaluation before I can receive a replacement, despite having AppleCare."

Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge the issue, but the decision to pull iPadOS 18 for the M4 iPad Pro models implies that there is a problem that needs attention. The company is likely working diligently to resolve the issue and provide a solution for the affected users.

iPadOS 18, similar to iOS 18, offers a range of exciting features, including a customizable Home Screen with personalized icons. Additionally, the update introduces Math Notes, Handwriting with Smart Script, live audio transcription, the much-awaited Calculator app specifically designed for iPad, as well as Game Mode.

As the situation unfolds, it remains uncertain how widespread the bricking issue is for M4 iPad Pro models. Apple customers are advised to exercise caution before updating their iPads to iPadOS 18 and await further information or an official statement from Apple regarding the matter.
