### GameStop Probes Reports of Damaged Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles Due to Stapling Incident

GameStop has launched an investigation following multiple complaints from customers regarding damaged Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Allegations surfaced across social media platforms such as X and Reddit, claiming that a GameStop outlet in New York had stapled receipts to the console boxes, puncturing the screens in the process. This mishap came to light after consumers, including X user Oadhan Lynch, shared images of the damaged products.

"GameStop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box, FML," Lynch stated in his post, expressing frustration at the prospect of waiting months for a new stock. He attended the midnight release, leading him to suspect that other customers in line may also encounter similar issues.

In response to these claims, a GameStop spokesperson confirmed that the company is actively investigating the situation and aims to compensate the affected customers. By Thursday afternoon, Lynch updated his followers, indicating that GameStop had managed to source replacement consoles from around New York and New Jersey for those affected by the issue.

Other customers who experienced similar problems have not yet responded to requests for additional comments. The reported incidents appear to be confined to a specific region, occurring amidst a high demand for the newly released Nintendo Switch 2, which hit the market on Thursday.

This latest iteration of the Nintendo console has swiftly gained traction among gamers, despite its steep price tag of $449.99 for the base model and $499 with the addition of Mario Kart World. Long lines were observed at various retail locations nationwide, signifying the continued enthusiasm since the launch of the original Switch eight years ago.

However, this excitement has been somewhat marred by reports of shortages, just hours after the console's official release. Nintendo President and COO Doug Bowser assured fans at the Rockefeller Center launch event that the company is collaborating with retail partners to ensure sufficient supply through the launch period and the upcoming holiday season.

Some enthusiasts faced additional setbacks as Walmart reportedly canceled several orders just before delivery, and Target continued to process others. Bowser encouraged those who missed the preorder window to reach out to local retailers for updates on restocks.

In a sales forecast shared last month, Nintendo projected selling 15 million units of the Switch 2 by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026. Early adopters of the console have lauded its improved features, including a larger and clearer screen, and Joy-Cons that can attach to the screen's sides.
