### Sheriff Suspects Missing Kayaker Faked His Death and Fled
Authorities believe that a kayaker who was reported missing in Green Lake this summer might have staged his own death and fled the country. Ryan Borgwardt, 45, was last seen on August 12, when he supposedly went for a kayaking trip but never returned home.
Sheriff Mark Podoll of Green Lake County revealed at a press conference that an extensive search was carried out by state and local authorities as well as a nonprofit search and recovery team. The search, which lasted 54 days, involved combing through various parts of the lake where Borgwardt was last known to be.
During their investigation, deputies discovered Borgwardt's vehicle and a trailer parked in a local park near Green Lake. Additionally, a capsized kayak was found in the western section of the lake. Further scrutiny led to the recovery of a tackle box containing Borgwardt's wallet, keys, and driver's license.
Sheriff Podoll emphasized the ongoing efforts of the family awaiting Borgwardt's return, underscoring the emotional toll the incident has taken on them. The community remains on alert as authorities continue to explore the possibility of Borgwardt's whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
