Now, the husband of the victim will receive a financial settlement amounting to nearly a million dollars.

Aric Hutchinson, the husband of the late Samantha Miller, will receive approximately $863,300 in a settlement approved earlier this week by Charleston county circuit court judge Roger Young. This amount is to be paid by Folly Beach bars, including the Drop In Bar & Deli, the Crab Shack, and Snapper Jacks, as well as Progressive auto insurance and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The devastating crash occurred on April 28, 2023, when the newlywed couple was being transported in a golf cart away from their wedding reception. The driver, Jamie Lee Komoroski, allegedly crashed a rented car into the golf cart, throwing it a distance of 100 yards. Tragically, Samantha Miller lost her life at the scene, still wearing her wedding dress, while Aric Hutchinson survived with severe injuries, including a brain injury and multiple broken bones.

According to reports, Komoroski was driving at a speed of 65mph (104.6km/h) on a road with a speed limit of 25mph. Aric Hutchinson filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming that Komoroski had visited several bars around Folly Beach, displaying signs of intoxication before getting behind the wheel of her Toyota Camry. Her blood-alcohol concentration was reported to be over three times the legal limit.

The financial settlements reached a total of $1.3 million, but after deducting attorney and legal fees, the amount received by Hutchinson will be less. While Komoroski is currently out on bond, she faces serious charges, including felony driving under the influence resulting in death, reckless homicide, and two counts of felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.

In a shocking revelation, a recording of a telephone conversation held while Komoroski was in jail surfaced. In the call, she expressed her optimism about the future, stating that despite a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years, she expected to "be living her best life." These words have provoked public outrage and disbelief.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of drunk driving and the importance of responsible alcohol consumption. As the legal process unfolds, the settlement provides a measure of financial relief for Hutchinson, though it will never undo the loss and suffering caused by this senseless act.

In memory of Samantha Miller, her loved ones and the community continue to mourn her untimely death, emphasizing the need for justice and stricter enforcement against drunk driving to prevent future tragedies.
