In a devastating incident on Friday, the renowned gospel family quartet, The Nelons, suffered a heartbreaking loss as three of its members were among the seven individuals killed in a plane crash in Wyoming. Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were traveling to Seattle for a performance on a musical cruise when the tragic accident occurred.

The plane crashed around 1 p.m., just north of the town of Gillette, igniting a wildfire, as confirmed by Campbell County officials. The management team of The Nelons shared the devastating news on Facebook, recognizing the group as one of the most beloved gospel music families in America. Fatalities also included Nathan Kistler, Amber's husband, along with their assistant, Melodi Hodges. The pilot, Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa also lost their lives in the crash.

Autumn Nelon Streetman, the sole surviving member of The Nelons and a member of the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame, was not on the ill-fated plane. She had already arrived in Seattle, unaware of the tragic incident until she received the news.

Founded in 1977 by Kelly Nelon Clark's father, Rex Nelon, The Nelons became renowned for their gospel, hymns, and folk music. With more than 35 albums to their name, they presented Southern Gospel hits such as "We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown" and "Come Morning."

Preliminary information from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicated that an autopilot issue during the flight may have contributed to the crash, said NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway. Investigators have been dispatched to the crash site to further examine the incident. A preliminary report is expected to be prepared within 30 days, and a final report, determining the probable cause, could take up to two years.

This tragic plane crash has sent shockwaves through the music industry and the gospel community. The Nelons, known for their inspirational music and powerful performances, leave behind a profound legacy that has touched the hearts of many. As the investigation continues, the music world mourns the loss of these talented individuals and sends condolences to their families and loved ones.
