In a bid to strengthen the coaching staff of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach, is reportedly keen on bringing in former India international Abhishek Nayar as his assistant coach. The duo previously worked together during their successful stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024, where they played instrumental roles in guiding the team to the title.

Nayar, who not only played for the Mumbai Indians but also currently holds the position of KKR Academy director, is said to have already reached a verbal agreement with Gambhir during their time together at KKR. It is expected that Nayar will join Gambhir in the Indian cricket team's support staff, following Gambhir's official appointment as the head coach.

The news, reported in Bengali newspaper Aajkal, highlights Gambhir's confidence in Nayar's coaching abilities based on their past successful collaboration. Nayar's vast experience in the game, coupled with his role as KKR Academy director, makes him an ideal candidate to contribute to the development of Indian cricket.

This announcement comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, revealed Gambhir's appointment as the Indian men's cricket team's new head coach. Shah expressed his confidence in Gambhir's ability to lead the team forward, citing his firsthand experience of the evolving landscape of modern-day cricket.

"Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward," Shah stated in an official post on his social media account, welcoming Gambhir as the new head coach.

Gambhir's appointment follows the conclusion of Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team after the T20 World Cup 2024. The team's victory in the final match against South Africa marked a remarkable 17-year gap since their last triumph in the prestigious tournament.

As Gambhir takes on this new and highly coveted coaching role, the BCCI extends their full support to him. His clear vision for Team India, backed by his extensive experience and successful track record, positions Gambhir perfectly to lead the team to further achievements in the future.
