**Daniel Jones Signs with Minnesota Vikings After Clearing Waivers**

After clearing waivers on Monday, former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has found his next NFL destination with the Minnesota Vikings. According to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones, Jones is committing to the Vikings on a one-year deal valued at $375,000. Initially, he will join the Vikings' practice squad.

Jones' connection with the Vikings is an intriguing one. He played a crucial role in the Giants' surprising playoff victory over Minnesota during the 2022 postseason, an achievement that led to Jones securing a four-year, $160 million extension with the Giants in the following offseason. However, fortunes changed when the Vikings delivered a commanding 28-6 victory against Jones and the Giants in Week 1 of the current season, a game that left Vikings' personnel feeling some sympathy for him.

The Vikings had been one of CBS Sports' projected destinations for Jones. With Minnesota's quarterback landscape shaped by recent injuries and pending contracts, the opportunity emerged. First-round pick J.J. McCarthy, who was seen as the future quarterback, is sidelined for the year due to a knee injury. Sam Darnold, currently having a career-best year, is set to become a free agent. Meanwhile, Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien are on the roster, but McCarthy is the only quarterback with a contract extending beyond this season.

The move to Minnesota offers Jones a brief window to showcase his abilities, as he is with the Vikings for the remaining six regular-season games and potential playoff appearances. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell, known for his offensive acumen, expressed his admiration for Jones. In a press conference, O'Connell highlighted Jones' qualities both as a player and a person and noted that he has been a fan of Jones since his draft days.

The Giants' decision to part ways with Jones was influenced by financial considerations. By demoting him, they sought to evade the $23 million injury guarantee in his contract. Though releasing Jones was initially anticipated for the offseason, a tumultuous week expedited the decision, especially after Jones requested to be released.

While it is yet to be determined when Jones will transition from the practice squad, his stint with the Vikings offers a chance to end the season with a team vying for NFC supremacy under a respected coaching staff.
