**Florida's Jadan Baugh Shines with Record-Tying Five Touchdowns in Victory Over Kentucky**
Florida freshman running back Jadan Baugh etched his name into the annals of Gator football history by tying a single-game program record with five rushing touchdowns in a commanding 48-20 win over Kentucky. Baugh's standout performance earned him the title of 247Sports True Freshman of the Week.
With starting quarterback Graham Mertz and running back Montrell Johnson sidelined by injuries, the Gators looked to their younger roster to step up, and true freshmen did not disappoint. While quarterback DJ Lagway received significant attention before the game, racking up 259 passing yards and 58 rushing yards, it was Baugh who stole the show. In his starting debut, the 6-foot 3/4, 227-pound back carried the ball 22 times for 106 yards and matched the single-game rushing touchdown record previously held by Tim Tebow and Trey Burton.
Facing a tough Kentucky defense ranked in the top 25 for yards allowed per carry, Baugh’s performance was particularly notable. His five-touchdown night also set the record for the most rushing touchdowns by a Gator in their debut. This accomplishment underscores why 247Sports named Baugh their True Freshman of the Week for Week 8.
The effort from Florida's true freshmen highlights the potential within the program. "It's exciting to see some of that hard work is paying off," said Florida coach Billy Napier. "Our personnel department, our on-campus recruiting, the staff. Some of those young players are really good. Both those kids are incredible people, too. Humble, talented and stepped up. We're without Graham. We're without Montrell. Not only did they play well, they were lights out."
Previously highlighted by 247Sports as a freshman to watch, Baugh had been primarily utilized in special teams and as a third-string running back in the first five games of the season. Johnson’s injury gave Baugh the chance to shine, and he made the most of it.
Baugh’s decision to join Florida was influenced by his vision of playing alongside Lagway. He was one of the final 2024 class members to commit to the Gators, flipping from Arkansas for the early signing period despite interest from other top programs, including Alabama. Reflecting on his decision, Baugh said, "When I knew DJ was here, too, it gave me confidence to be here, too. I knew the player he was."
Having signed with Florida as the No. 32 athlete and No. 55 player in Georgia for the 2024 class, Baugh showcased his versatility and talent during his high school career at Decatur’s Columbia, excelling as an all-purpose athlete. His senior season saw him amass 1,583 yards at an impressive 14 yards per carry.
Baugh’s remarkable debut not only broke records but also provided a promising glimpse into the future of Gators football, validating the young talent on the team and instilling optimism for the seasons ahead.
