Renowned actress Elizabeth Taylor's inner turmoil and unhappiness in her marriage to Eddie Fisher are brought to light in a new documentary titled "Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes." The documentary features previously unseen interviews between Taylor and journalist Richard Meryman, conducted between 1964 and 1965.

According to reports from People magazine, Taylor candidly discussed her relationship woes during her conversations with Meryman. Describing her marriage to Fisher as "one big friggin' awful mistake," Taylor revealed that the initial honeymoon phase deteriorated quickly. She stated that Fisher deliberately ensured she felt isolated and lonely, leading to her feeling increasingly depressed.

In a poignant revelation, Taylor disclosed that she had even contemplated taking her own life due to her miserable marriage. She admitted to taking sleeping pills purposefully and calmly in front of Fisher as a desperate cry for help. Taylor was also recorded saying, "I'd rather be dead than face divorce," highlighting the depths of her emotional distress during that time.

However, Taylor later recognized the potential harm her actions would have on her children and considered her suicide attempt as self-indulgent. The consequences for her children served as a powerful deterrent, making her reassess her perspective on her marriage.

Fisher was Taylor's fourth husband, and their union brought together a blended family. At the time of their marriage, Taylor had two sons, Michael Wilding Jr. and Christopher Wilding, from her second husband, Michael Wilding, and a daughter, Liza Frances Todd, from her third husband, Mike Todd.

In 1964, Taylor ultimately left Fisher and embarked on a highly publicized relationship with actor Richard Burton, leading to two separate marriages between the two. Taylor's tumultuous love life was a defining aspect of her public persona, with a total of eight marriages to seven different men throughout her lifetime.

Recently, in 2023, Todd Fisher, the son of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, spoke out about his father's extramarital affair with Elizabeth Taylor. His revelation stirred controversy among the public, with Fisher acknowledging that many people felt anger and resentment towards his father's actions.

The forthcoming documentary, "Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes," directed by Nanette Burstein, is set to premiere on August 3 on HBO. Burstein exclusively shared with Page Six that she believes Taylor was unfairly "slut-shamed" for her affairs, defending the late actress's choices. Christopher Wilding, son of Taylor, expressed his admiration for his mother's extraordinary life, characterized by passion, humor, and love.

The documentary offers audiences a rare glimpse into the private struggles of one of Hollywood's most iconic figures, shedding light on the complex emotions that Elizabeth Taylor experienced during her troubled relationship with Eddie Fisher, ultimately leading to her pursuit of happiness with Richard Burton.
