In an effort to strengthen their team with experienced talent, the Duke Blue Devils have successfully secured another valuable addition through the transfer portal. Sion James, a 6-foot-6 guard hailing from Tulane, recently announced his decision to transfer to Duke via Instagram, making him the third player acquired by head coach Jon Scheyer this cycle.

Known for his elite scoring abilities across all three levels of the court, James brings a dynamic skill set that will significantly impact the Blue Devils' offensive capabilities. His quick first step, smooth jump shot, and versatility make him a substantial threat who can effectively create space on the floor. While primarily recognized for his shooting prowess, James also possesses adept ball-handling skills and excels in the pick-and-roll playstyle.

The Sugar Hill, Georgia native showcased steady improvement during his four-year tenure with the Green Wave, culminating in an impressive scoring average of 14 points per game during the previous season. Furthermore, his shooting splits reveal considerable progress, shooting above 50% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc. James' contribution extends beyond scoring, as he also proved to be a valuable asset on the boards, ranking second on his team with an average of 5.4 rebounds per game.

Although James will need to acclimate to the heightened level of competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), his natural scoring ability and versatility are expected to significantly bolster the Blue Devils' offensive firepower in the upcoming season. Furthermore, James has garnered admiration and respect within the Tulane community and the American Athletic Conference (AAC), earning the distinction of being the first player to win the AAC Sportsmanship Award consecutively, as well as leading as chair of the AAC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

As a graduate transfer, James will have one final year of eligibility to make his mark on the Duke basketball program. With his addition, the Blue Devils continue to fortify their roster with experienced talent, setting the stage for a promising and competitive season ahead.
