**Sarah Nurse Joins PWHL Vancouver for Inaugural Season**
VANCOUVER, BC - In an exciting development for professional women’s hockey, PWHL Vancouver announced on June 5, 2025, that forward Sarah Nurse has signed a one-year agreement to join the team for the 2025-26 season. Nurse, previously with the Toronto Sceptres for two seasons, becomes the fourth player to sign with Vancouver as they prepare for their debut campaign.
“Sarah is a standout talent both on and off the ice and will be pivotal in advancing professional women's hockey in Vancouver,” stated Cara Gardner Morey, General Manager of PWHL Vancouver. “Her exceptional skills will strengthen our forward lineup, and her dedication to fostering an inclusive hockey community makes her beloved by fans everywhere.”
Throughout her time in the PWHL, Nurse has established herself as a key player. Ranking fifth in career points-per-game average at 0.82, she has accumulated 37 points from 17 goals and 20 assists across 45 games. During the league’s inaugural season, the 30-year-old from Hamilton, ON, finished tied for second in league scoring with 23 points in 24 games and earned a spot as a Second Team All-Star. Her recent performance includes 14 points in 21 games, and she recently played in the Vancouver Takeover Tour game at a sold-out Rogers Arena on January 8.
Prior to her PWHL career, Nurse had an impressive collegiate stint at the University of Wisconsin and four professional seasons between the CWHL and PWHPA. As a Canadian Olympian, she won silver in 2018 and gold in 2022, breaking the points record with 18 points in a single Olympic tournament in Beijing. Her achievements also include being a six-time World Championship medalist, with three gold medals.
Expressing her excitement, Nurse said, “I am so honoured to be joining PWHL Vancouver, finally bringing professional women's hockey to the West Coast! Experiencing the passion during the Takeover Tour last year was incredible, and I am eager to see that enthusiasm every day. The vision for this organization is thrilling, and I am grateful for Cara’s faith in me as both a player and a person. The support I’ve received has been overwhelming, and I cannot wait for puck drop!”
Nurse is the first forward to be signed by PWHL Vancouver, joining goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer and defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson, all part of the Canadian National Team. The expansion teams have a unique signing window until June 8 at 5 p.m. ET to secure up to five players each. The 2025 Expansion Draft, presented by Upper Deck, will occur on June 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET, where Seattle and Vancouver will select players to complete their 12-player rosters.
