Disney Upfront 2022 Showcases Star-Studded Lineup and Exciting Announcements

The Disney Upfront 2022 event was an extravaganza of star power and exciting announcements held at the North Javits Center. Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lisa Ann Walter from Abbott Elementary had the honor of calling roll to kick off the event, which brought together a multitude of stars from Disney's movies and networks.

Emma Stone, recognized for her Oscar acceptance speech for Poor Things, took the stage to remind everyone that Disney has a rich history of over 100 years. Stone's primary role, however, was to introduce Disney CEO Bob Iger, who made a rare appearance on the upfront stage after 30 years. Iger, sporting a white shirt without a tie, promised that Jimmy Kimmel would later join the event to entertain the audience.

Another highlight of the event was Ryan Reynolds, known for his work in Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place, who humorously acknowledged being primarily known for his marketing endeavors before discussing his new family-friendly show on NatGeo. Reynolds brought out Rob McElhenney, and together they spoke about the highly anticipated fourth season return of Welcome to Wrexham.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan lightened the atmosphere with his witty banter, joking about buying a tie for Iger and expressing his excitement for Hulu's entry into the comedy special business. Gaffigan mentioned that he will have the honor of delivering Hulu's first comedy special on November 22.

The audience was in for a treat as Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson announced that Jason Kelce would be joining ESPN's Monday Night Countdown as a commentator. The charismatic Kelce, accompanied by Scott Van Pelt, Ryan Clark, and Marcus Spears, emphasized the significance of Monday Night Football and his passion for the sport.

Ryan Seacrest highlighted ABC's live events, including New Year's Rockin' Eve, the Oscars, and the upcoming ESPY Awards with Serena Williams as the host. Seacrest also revealed that an exciting spin-off, the Golden Bachelorette featuring Joan Vassos, would be coming soon for Golden Bachelor fans.

ABC News anchor David Muir took the stage to introduce Robin Roberts, who celebrated her remarkable 20-year tenure as a co-anchor on Good Morning America. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith also reflected on his 20-year journey with the company, emphasizing the importance of working at a company with high standards.

Nathan Fillion and Cal Naka, associated with The Acolyte, teased the series and playfully mentioned Disney's diverse programming, ranging from "Wookiees to Rookies." The rest of The Acolyte cast joined them to promote the series premiering on Disney+ on June 4, which is set 100 years before The Phantom Menace.

Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo returned to the upfront to discuss the Disney+ library, including the immense success of Grey's Anatomy reruns, which have accumulated a staggering 1.7 billion streamed hours worldwide. Pompeo also teased her new limited series, Natalia, previously known as the untitled orphan project, which will be available on Hulu.

Selena Gomez proudly shared her multiple projects at Disney, including a revival of her former show, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and her involvement in Only Murders in the Building, returning on August 27. Comedy icons Steve Martin and Martin Short joined Gomez and brought their signature humor to the stage.

As Marvel TV took the spotlight, the cast of the upcoming series Agatha All Along presented their show, announcing its premiere on Disney+ on September 18. They delighted the audience with a first look trailer featuring Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness. Additionally, Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos generated excitement for the upcoming series Ironheart, set to release next year. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio then premiered footage from Daredevil: Born Again, slated to debut on Disney+ in March 2025.

NCAA women's basketball stars, along with South Carolina Gamecocks' head coach Dawn Staley, shared the news that Disney+ would be broadcasting three of Caitlin Clark's games, exciting basketball fans.

Notable figures, including Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, Michelle Williams, and Angela Bassett, also took the stage to reflect on their contributions to Disney shows such as American Horror Story, 9-1-1, The Kardashians, and Dying for Sex.
