### Daniel Jones’ Tough Week Continues as Giants Relegate Him to Scout Team Safety

The challenging week for Daniel Jones took an unexpected turn as the New York Giants added to the quarterback’s recent woes. On Thursday, several Giants beat reporters noted that Jones was notably absent from quarterback duties during practice. While he had his helmet and was actively participating, he was not in his usual role.

In a surprising move, the Giants had Jones playing as a safety with the scout team during a walkthrough drill. This development came just days after Jones was benched in favor of Tommy DeVito, bypassing the more experienced backup, Drew Lock. Moreover, the Giants have recently signed Tim Boyle to the practice squad, placing Jones as the third quarterback behind DeVito and Lock.

Typically, reserve and practice squad players take on the role Jones was assigned in the walkthrough, making his situation particularly striking. This is quite a fall for Jones, who carries a cap number of $47.855 million this season. Joining him on the scout team defense were practice squad offensive linemen, tight ends coach Tim Kelly, assistant quarterbacks coach Christian Jones, and offensive assistant Christian Daboll, according to The Athletic.

This move raises questions about the Giants' strategy. If the intention behind benching Jones was to avoid the risk of triggering his $23 million injury clause, having him participate in any capacity where he could potentially get hurt seems counterintuitive.

For Jones, who was once seen as the franchise quarterback, this week may represent one of the lowest points in his tenure with the Giants.
