Colts Claim Cornerback Samuel Womack III off Waivers, Waive Darrell Baker Jr.

The Indianapolis Colts have made a roster move, claiming cornerback Samuel Womack III off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. In a corresponding move, the Colts have waived cornerback Darrell Baker Jr.

Womack III, standing at 5-10 and weighing 189 pounds, has played in 23 games over the past two seasons with the 49ers, including one start. During his time with San Francisco, he has recorded 18 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, two passes defensed, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and eight special teams stops. He has also appeared in three postseason games, making three solo tackles and two special teams stops.

Drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round (172nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Toledo, Womack III has shown promise and versatility in his playing abilities. With his addition to the Colts' roster, the team hopes to bolster their defensive unit and improve their overall performance.

Meanwhile, the Colts have decided to part ways with Darrell Baker Jr., who played in 17 games over the last two seasons. Baker Jr., measuring 6-1 and weighing 190 pounds, contributed with 34 tackles, seven passes defensed, one fumble recovery, and one special teams stop during his time with the Colts. He initially joined the team's practice squad in September 2022 and made six starts in the 2023 season.

The reasons behind the waiver of Baker Jr. were not immediately disclosed by the Colts' management. However, the decision signifies the team's commitment to exploring different options and making changes to elevate their performance.
