In a major breakthrough, CeeDee Lamb, the star receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, has finally put an end to his holdout by agreeing to a four-year, $136 million contract extension. According to ESPN, the deal includes a record-breaking $38 million signing bonus, making Lamb one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in NFL history.
The contract secures Lamb an impressive annual average value (AAV) of $34 million, just below Justin Jefferson's $35 million AAV with the Minnesota Vikings. Additionally, the agreement guarantees him a whopping $100 million. The 25-year-old Lamb, who was entering the final year of his rookie contract, expressed his desire for a new deal that reflected his outstanding performance on the field.
Lamb's decision to hold out during training camp raised speculation about the negotiations. Dallas Cowboys' owner, Jerry Jones, initially stated that he didn't feel any urgency to complete a deal. Lamb responded with a seemingly lighthearted "lol" tweet, but Jones later backtracked on his comments, emphasizing the team's commitment to signing Lamb. Ultimately, it was Dallas who made the move, recognizing Lamb's importance and securing his future with the franchise.
The young receiver's exceptional performances in the 2023 season played a significant role in sealing this lucrative contract. Lamb dominated the NFL, ranking first in receptions, second in receiving yards, and third in touchdowns. His impressive stat line included 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, establishing new records for the Cowboys in catches and yards.
Lamb's career statistics speak volumes about his talent and impact on the game. Since entering the league, he has recorded 395 receptions for 5,145 yards and 32 touchdowns. These remarkable numbers solidify his status as one of the game's top players and justify the substantial investment made by the Cowboys.
With the deal now finalized, Lamb will have 13 days to hit the field and practice with his teammates before the Cowboys' season opener against the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys are eager to reclaim the NFC East title and redeem themselves after last year's disappointing first-round playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers.
While Lamb's future is now secure, two other star receivers, Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, are still in pursuit of contract extensions with their respective teams as the highly anticipated Week 1 approaches.
Lamb's patient approach has certainly paid off, as he now looks forward to building on his extraordinary achievements and contributing to the success of the Dallas Cowboys for years to come.
