In a recent development, a judge in Santa Fe, New Mexico has scheduled the sentencing for movie set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western film "Rust." Court records indicate that the sentencing hearing will take place on the morning of April 15, lasting two hours.

Gutierrez-Reed's conviction was handed down by a jury last week, following the shooting incident that occurred during a rehearsal in October 2021. The armorer was found guilty of unwittingly bringing live ammunition onto the set, where it was strictly prohibited, and failing to adhere to basic gun-safety protocols.

Meanwhile, the acclaimed actor Alec Baldwin, who was involved in the tragic incident, was indicted by a grand jury in January for involuntary manslaughter. Baldwin has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and his trial is scheduled for July. It is worth noting that Santa Fe-based Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who will oversee Gutierrez-Reed's sentencing, is also assigned to preside over Baldwin's trial.

Involuntary manslaughter carries a felony sentence of up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. Currently, Gutierrez-Reed is being held at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility pending her sentencing.

Gutierrez-Reed's defense attorney, Jason Bowles, stated that their client intends to appeal the conviction. The defense argued that Baldwin was responsible for the incident, claiming that he pulled back the gun's hammer, but not the trigger, resulting in the fatal shooting of Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza.

Previously, the "Rust" assistant director and safety coordinator, Dave Halls, pleaded no contest to negligent handling of a firearm. Halls completed a sentence of six months unsupervised probation.

With the sentencing of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed approaching, it remains to be seen how the court will determine the appropriate punishment for her role in the tragic shooting on the set of "Rust." The outcome of this case will have significant implications for both the film industry and the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Alec Baldwin's involvement.
