Grammy-nominated gospel singer Bobbi Storm had a close encounter with being kicked off a Delta Air Lines flight recently when she refused to stop singing for fellow passengers. A video posted on her Instagram account captured the incident, in which Storm stood in the plane's center aisle and began singing before being approached by a Delta crew member.
In the footage, the crew member can be heard instructing Storm to sit down and "be quiet." However, Storm, undeterred, informed her fellow passengers about her experience of singing on other flights and receiving two Grammy nominations, which garnered some applause from the audience.
Storm, a member of the gospel group Maverick City Music, revealed that the group had received nominations for Best Gospel Album and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song at the recent 2024 Grammy Awards.
The Instagram video goes on to show Storm attempting to perform her single "We Can't Forget Him," only to be interrupted once again by the same crew member, who insisted on her silence. Resiliently, Storm responded, "I'm doing what the Lord is telling me to do." The crew member, identifying himself as the flight leader, informed her that she would need to comply with his instructions or risk being removed from the flight.
Although Storm seemed to concede initially, as soon as the crew member walked away, she quietly informed her fellow passengers that she would continue singing the song. Without further ado, she proceeded to sing, albeit in a hushed tone.
Following the incident, a Delta spokesperson stated, "Delta has been in contact with the customer. For the safety of our customers and crew, it's always important to follow crew instructions." The airline emphasized the importance of adhering to crew instructions to ensure the security of everyone on board.
In a subsequent video, Storm revealed that Delta executives had reached out to her. She reiterated that she believed she had not broken any rules and was simply "spreading joy" through her singing. Furthermore, she expressed her desire for the crew member not to face any reprimand or job loss due to the incident.
This incident has sparked a discussion about the boundaries of self-expression and religious freedom on airplanes. As regulations and protocols continue to evolve, airlines face the challenge of balancing passenger comfort and safety while respecting individual rights.
Delta Air Lines has not disclosed any further details about their conversation with Storm but has acknowledged the incident and emphasized the importance of following crew instructions for the benefit of all passengers and crew aboard their flights.
