As the NFL regular season nears its conclusion, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a unique position of uncertainty. While they have secured a playoff spot, the Cowboys are still unsure of their seeding and, consequently, their opponent in the upcoming wild-card round. With three potential seeds up for grabs, the Cowboys could potentially face any of seven different teams in their playoff opener.

Securing the coveted No. 2 seed in the NFC East would guarantee the Cowboys a specific opponent. To clinch the division and the No. 2 seed, the Cowboys must triumph over the Commanders. Alternatively, they could lose to the Commanders while the Eagles fall to the Giants, or both teams tie in their respective games. In this scenario, the Cowboys would face the seventh-seeded team, which could be the Packers, Seahawks, Vikings, Rams, or Saints.

Each potential matchup hinges on specific outcomes in the final week of the regular season. Should the Packers defeat the Bears and the Rams best the 49ers, the Cowboys would face the Packers. Conversely, if the Rams lose to the 49ers while the Packers triumph over the Bears, the Cowboys would take on the Rams. A Seahawks victory against the Cardinals coupled with a Packers loss to the Bears would see the Cowboys facing off against the Seahawks. If the Saints beat the Falcons, the Buccaneers defeat the Panthers, and both the Packers and the Seahawks suffer losses, then the Cowboys would square off against the Saints. Similarly, a Vikings win over the Lions, combined with losses by the Packers and Seahawks, and a Falcons victory against the Saints, would pit the Cowboys against the Vikings. Another possibility for a Cowboys-Vikings matchup arises if the Saints beat the Falcons, the Buccaneers lose to the Panthers, and both the Packers and Seahawks suffer defeats.

However, the Cowboys also have the potential to claim the third seed. This scenario can only transpire if the Cowboys lose to the Commanders, the Eagles fall to the Giants, and the Lions upset the Vikings. In this case, the Cowboys would host either the Rams or the Packers in the wild-card round.

Furthermore, there is a scenario where the Cowboys could secure the fifth seed. If the Cowboys lose or tie against the Commanders and the Eagles defeat the Giants, the Cowboys will earn a wild-card berth. In this instance, they would face the winner of the NFC South: the Buccaneers, Saints, or Falcons. A Cowboys-Buccaneers matchup would occur if the Buccaneers defeat the Panthers, while a Cowboys-Saints matchup would transpire if the Buccaneers lose to the Panthers and the Saints beat the Falcons. Similarly, a Cowboys-Falcons game would take place if the Buccaneers lose to the Panthers and the Falcons defeat the Saints.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Cowboys find themselves in a state of anticipation, anxiously awaiting the outcomes of various matchups that will determine their wild-card round opponent. The coming days will be filled with speculation and anticipation as Cowboys fans eagerly await the team's fate.
