In their search for a head of football operations, the Commanders are reportedly narrowing down their options. According to multiple reports, Adam Peters, the assistant General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers, and Ian Cunningham, the assistant General Manager of the Chicago Bears, are the two finalists for the coveted position.
After completing the first round of interviews on Wednesday, Peters and Cunningham are now expected to move on to the second round of interviews in the coming days. Both individuals have previously been considered for various job opportunities in the football industry.
Adam Peters, who has been with the 49ers since 2017, initially served as the vice president of player personnel before earning a promotion to assistant General Manager in 2021. Peters' talent evaluation skills have caught the attention of other teams, as he has also drawn interest from the Las Vegas Raiders for their General Manager vacancy this year.
Ian Cunningham joined the Chicago Bears as the assistant General Manager in 2022, following his role as the director of Player Personnel for the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to that, he held positions such as assistant director of player personnel and director of college scouting for the Eagles.
The Commanders have expressed interest in interviewing several current assistants for their next head coach, but it appears that their search for a suitable candidate will become more focused once the head of football operations is appointed.
