Frankfurt, Germany - New England Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown was notably absent from both practice and the game in Germany this weekend due to a combination of an ankle injury and personal reasons. The absence of Brown adds to a growing list of players dealing with personal issues on the team.
Brown, who was listed on the injury report with an ankle issue, was unable to join his teammates in Germany for the game against the Commanders. Adding to that, he also missed Wednesday's practice due to personal reasons. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick confirmed the reasons for Brown's absence at a press conference on Friday morning.
"Both," Belichick straightforwardly stated when asked whether the absence was due to the ankle injury or personal situation. The Patriots were preparing for practice at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt.
In addition to Brown, another player, JC Jackson, was also unable to play in Germany due to personal issues. Jackson was left home after failing to comply with curfew regulations before last Sunday's loss to the Commanders. He was subsequently listed as out with a "not injury related (personal)" designation.
The benching of Jackson, a key member of the team, raised questions about the message it sent to the rest of the Patriots squad. Patriots captain David Andrews addressed the issue and emphasized the importance of commitment to the team.
"I don't make those decisions or really know much about it. But I think the biggest thing is being committed to the team," Andrews stated. "That's something I've always tried to preach and live by. Team comes first."
The absence of both Brown and Jackson in Germany adds further challenges for the Patriots as they strive to make a playoff push. With Brown's ankle injury and the uncertainty surrounding Jackson's situation, the team will have to rely on depth and adjust their game plan accordingly.
The New England Patriots have yet to provide a timeline for Brown's return or further details regarding the personal reasons behind his absence. As the season progresses, the team will need to manage these challenges to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
