The Texas Rangers have made a significant addition to their bullpen by reaching an agreement with free agent reliever Kirby Yates on a one-year, $4.5 million deal, according to sources close to the situation. This news was reported by ESPN's Buster Olney on Tuesday.

Yates, a 36-year-old right-hander, had an impressive season with the Atlanta Braves in 2023, where he recorded a stellar 3.28 ERA in 61 relief appearances. In addition, he secured seven wins and five saves, showcasing his ability to be a valuable asset in high-pressure situations.

However, Yates encountered setbacks in recent seasons due to injury. He missed the entire 2021 campaign and was limited to just seven innings of work in 2022 as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. It is hoped that with the successful rehabilitation behind him, Yates will now be able to regain his dominant form on the mound.

Yates had a standout year in 2019 when he represented the National League as an All-Star while playing for the San Diego Padres. That season, he led the entire league with an impressive 41 saves, solidifying his reputation as one of the top relievers in the game.

Throughout his career, Yates has proven himself as a reliable option in the bullpen. With a record of 19-19, including 62 saves and a 3.53 ERA in 361 games, he has showcased his abilities with several teams. Yates has played for the Tampa Bay Rays (2014-2015), New York Yankees (2016), Los Angeles Angels (2017), San Diego Padres (2017-2020), and the Atlanta Braves in the 2022-2023 seasons.

The addition of Kirby Yates to the Texas Rangers' bullpen provides a much-needed boost to the team's pitching staff. With his experience, proven track record, and the potential to return to his dominant form, Yates is expected to play a key role in the Rangers' quest for success in the upcoming season.
