The Oakland Athletics are considering making Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento their temporary home during the 2025 season, the team has confirmed. This news has sparked excitement among city leaders and fans, who contemplate the implications of having another professional franchise in the region.

Robert Alvis, a resident of Sacramento and dedicated A's fan, expressed his desire for the team to remain in Oakland. However, with the team's future move to Las Vegas and the impending expiration of their lease at the Oakland Coliseum, the Athletics are in need of a temporary stadium until their new ballpark is completed.

West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero revealed that the Athletics' leadership recently visited Sutter Health Park to explore the possibility of utilizing the venue during the transition to Las Vegas. She expressed the city's enthusiasm, stating that this could be a significant development for West Sacramento.

While emphasizing that the city is not actively persuading the team, Mayor Guerrero expressed openness to facilitating an agreement between the Athletics and the Giants, who share Sutter Health Park with their minor league affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. City Manager Aaron Laurel echoed this sentiment, assuring that West Sacramento is prepared to work with both teams to create a mutually beneficial arrangement for all stakeholders.

The potential use of Sutter Health Park as a temporary home for the Athletics has been met with mixed reactions from fans. Some, like Ray Perez of West Sacramento, firmly believe that the team should resume discussions with Oakland, accusing A's executives Dave Kaval and John Fisher of betraying the city and its fans.

In contrast, Robert Alvis and many other Sacramento-based A's fans are excited about the possibility of having their team play in their city. Mayor Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento also expressed support, highlighting the region's history of supporting professional sports, particularly the Sacramento Kings. Steinberg believes that Sutter Health Park hosting the Athletics temporarily could showcase the potential of bringing another team to the area.

Sutter Health Park, currently home to the Sacramento River Cats, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, holds promise as a potential hosting venue for the Athletics. The Greater Sacramento Economic Council President & CEO, Barry Broome, confirmed a meeting with the Athletics' brass, indicating the ongoing discussions surrounding the prospect.

While no final decision has been reached, the consideration of Sutter Health Park as a temporary home for the Oakland Athletics represents an exciting opportunity for both Sacramento and West Sacramento. As the lease for the Oakland Coliseum expires and plans for the team's future relocation to Las Vegas progress, fans eagerly await further updates on where their beloved team will make its home in the 2025 season and beyond.
