In preparation for their upcoming Week 17 game against the Steelers, the Seattle Seahawks have made several roster moves, including placing safety Jamal Adams and receiver Dee Eskridge on injured reserve. The team also waived outside linebacker Frank Clark Sr. ahead of Sunday's matchup.
With the absence of Adams, who has been sidelined with a knee injury for the past two games, the Seahawks needed to address their safety depth. In response, they signed safety Ty Okada off the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Okada had previously used up his three practice squad elevations and will now provide additional support in Adams' absence.
Eskridge, who has been dealing with a rib injury, has also been placed on injured reserve. His absence from the lineup has been noticeable over the past four games. To fill the void at the receiver position, the Seahawks promoted nose tackle Austin Faoliu and cornerback Kelvin Joseph from the practice squad, adding more depth to the roster.
In a surprising move, the Seahawks decided to waive outside linebacker Frank Clark Sr. Clark, who had previously spent four seasons with the Seahawks before being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, returned to Seattle to bolster the team's outside linebacker depth. However, Clark's contributions in six games for the Seahawks were limited, recording only six tackles.
Furthermore, linebacker Jordyn Brooks has been downgraded to out due to an ankle injury he sustained in the previous game. This development has led to Devin Bush being slated to start against his former team, with linebacker Patrick O'Connell providing added depth alongside Jon Rhattigan behind Bush and Bobby Wagner.
To complete their roster adjustments, the Seahawks have signed three players off the practice squad. Linebacker Patrick O'Connell, safety Ty Okada, and tackle Jake Curhan have been added to the 53-man roster, filling the voids left by the injured and waived players.
The Seahawks face off against the Steelers on Sunday, December 31, 2023, with kickoff set for 1:05 p.m. PT. The team's need for depth and cohesion will be put to the test as they aim for a victory against Pittsburgh.
