The Houston Texans have made a strategic move to bring safety Kareem Jackson back to his former team, claiming him off waivers from the Denver Broncos. Jackson, who was waived by the Broncos after two suspensions for illegal hits earlier this season, will now have an opportunity for redemption with the Texans.

Jackson, a first-round draft pick of the Texans in 2010, had spent nine successful seasons in Houston before joining the Broncos in 2019. The 35-year-old safety will receive his remaining salary of $279,444 as part of the waiver claim.

The decision to bring Jackson back was likely influenced by the existing relationship between Jackson and Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, who were teammates during the 2010-2011 season in Houston. With Jackson's return, the Texans hope to bolster their defense and tap into his experience and skills as they move forward.

Since his last game on November 19th against the Minnesota Vikings, Jackson has been suspended twice this season for illegal hits. The NFL suspended him for four games following a hit on Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs, citing repeated violations of playing rules aimed at protecting player health and safety.

Alongside the suspensions, Jackson has also incurred fines totaling $89,670 for four illegal hits. These penalties reflect the league's commitment to enforcing player safety measures and discouraging dangerous on-field behavior.

Although Jackson was eligible to return from his most recent suspension on Sunday against the New England Patriots, the Broncos opted to utilize a one-game roster exemption before ultimately waiving him on Monday. However, reports indicate that the Broncos had plans to bring Jackson back to their practice squad if he cleared waivers.

During his time with the Broncos, Jackson contributed significantly to the team's defense, starting all 69 games he played. Over four-plus seasons in Denver, he recorded 393 tackles, six interceptions, and 22 passes defensed, showcasing his impact on the field.

With Kareem Jackson's return to familiar territory, the Houston Texans are giving him the opportunity to rebuild his NFL career and contribute to their defensive efforts as they look ahead to future games.
