In a quest to fill their vacant defensive coordinator position, the New York Giants hosted a second interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson on Saturday. According to reports, Wilson made the most of the Ravens' off day before their AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs by attending a trio of interviews.
Adam Schefter, an NFL insider, revealed that Wilson also interviewed with the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans. These interviews marked Wilson's first interactions with both teams, signaling a potential opportunity for him to step into a new role.
At 41 years old, Wilson boasts an extensive coaching and scouting background in the NFL since 2008. This season marks his first with the Ravens, following his tenure of two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive backs coach. Prior to that, Wilson held the position of defensive backs coach with the New York Jets from 2017 to 2020.
While Wilson has not yet served as a defensive coordinator in his career, there were those who believed he was deserving of the position with the Eagles last offseason after the team hired and eventually fired Sean DeSai.
Wilson's interviews with the Giants, Rams, and Titans present him with promising opportunities to take on a more prominent role in the NFL. As the Ravens gear up for their AFC Championship game, Wilson's potential successor as their defensive backs coach remains a topic of interest among football enthusiasts.
It remains to be seen whether Wilson will land the coveted defensive coordinator position with the Giants or one of the other teams he interviewed with. Regardless, his impressive coaching track record and the recognition he has garnered indicate that he could be a strong addition to any team's coaching staff.
