The team confirmed the decision, stating that it was a mutual agreement. Trubisky, a seven-year pro, had two years remaining on his contract but no guaranteed money, making his departure understandable.

Trubisky's time with the Steelers failed to solidify his spot in the roster over the past two campaigns. He had his ups and downs, but ultimately struggled to make a significant impact. As a starter, he posted a 2-5 record in 12 appearances, throwing for 1,884 yards, eight touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, with a QB rating of 77.6.

Alongside Trubisky, the Steelers also released offensive lineman Chukwuma Okorafor and punter Pressley Harvin III. These moves will clear approximately $13 million in salary cap space for the team.
