Kansas City Chiefs player Charles Omenihu has taken matters into his own hands after expressing frustration over the exclusive streaming deal for his team's playoff game against the Miami Dolphins. Omenihu has decided to give away memberships to the streaming platform Peacock in order to ensure that as many fans as possible can watch the game.

Taking to social media, Omenihu criticized the decision to have the game exclusively on Peacock, calling it "insane." He directly reached out to the streaming platform, suggesting that they should collaborate with him on a solution.

In a post on Tuesday night, Omenihu announced that he would be covering the subscription fee for dozens of fans. Expressing his desire for everyone to be able to watch the game, he wrote, "Us playing on Peacock ONLY is insane I won't lie. I saw the comments and want y'all to be able to watch us play... So I'm giving away 90 3-month Peacock memberships!"

Coincidentally, Omenihu wears the number 90 on his jersey, and he decided to give away 90 subscriptions. Fans only need to reply to his post in order to enter the giveaway. The winners will be announced by Omenihu on Friday.

This move comes as the NFL takes another step into the world of streaming. Saturday's wildcard matchup between the Chiefs and the Dolphins will be the first NFL playoff game to be exclusively streamed on a paid platform, namely Peacock. Fans from the Miami and Kansas City markets will still be able to watch the game on their local NBC affiliate channels.

Criticism has arisen on social media over the requirement to pay for yet another service to watch the important playoff game. However, executives within the league see this development as indicative of the future direction of sports content, with streaming platforms becoming increasingly prominent.

Mike North, the NFL's vice president of broadcast planning, referred to this decision as a risk and an experiment but expressed confidence in its potential success. He stated, "I think we're going to find this Miami-Kansas City playoff game on Peacock is going to be the most streamed sports event in history, and that'll be another bar for us to climb over in the future."

The game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST, exclusively on Peacock. Thanks to Charles Omenihu's generous gesture, many fans will now have the opportunity to watch the game without having to worry about subscription fees.
