In an update from the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen announced on Tuesday that the team is aiming to find a new defensive coordinator by the end of the week. The Giants have been searching for a replacement for Wink Martindale, who recently left the team.

One candidate who may not be in consideration is Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Brendan Daly. As the Chiefs are set to face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on February 11, the Giants would have to wait until after the game to hire Daly.

Former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who was initially considered a strong candidate, may also be out of the running. Although he has been taking interviews to become a defensive coordinator, there have been no reports of a potential interview with the Giants.

It is speculated that one of the primary targets for the Giants is Baltimore Ravens' defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson. Wilson has been interviewed twice by the Giants and is currently a sought-after candidate. He has also received interest from the Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, and Green Bay Packers for their defensive coordinator positions.

Another possibility for Wilson is a promotion within the Baltimore Ravens organization. If current Ravens' defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald becomes the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson could be elevated to the coordinator role in Baltimore.

Shane Bowen of the Tennessee Titans, who has previous experience as a coordinator, was also interviewed by the Giants. However, reports suggest that the Titans intend to keep Bowen on their staff, making him an unlikely choice for the Giants.

Among the other known candidates are Giants' defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, Bills' linebacker coach Bobby Babich, Miami Dolphins' linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, and interim Los Angeles Chargers' defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley. The Giants had requested an interview with Ansley, but it is unclear if it took place.

If Dennard Wilson does not end up being the Giants' choice or goes elsewhere, it seems that Jerome Henderson, Bobby Babich, and Anthony Campanile are the remaining options.

Henderson, who has been with the Giants as their defensive backs coach for the past four seasons, would likely be a popular choice among the team's players. Martindale had previously praised Henderson as one of the best in the league at his position.

Campanile, a New Jersey native, is relatively new to the NFL, having joined the Miami Dolphins in 2020. However, he has a strong background in coaching, including collegiate experience at Rutgers, Boston College, and Michigan, as well as coaching high school football in New Jersey.

The Giants now eagerly await a resolution to their defensive coordinator search, hoping to have a new leader in place by the end of the week.
