In a quest to fill the vacant offensive coordinator spot, the New England Patriots are narrowing down their search. The latest name to be scratched off the list is Zac Robinson, who is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons as their new offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Robinson's move to the Falcons will reunite him with new head coach Raheem Morris, as they both were part of the Los Angeles Rams staff for the past three seasons. Robinson, who previously served as the Rams' pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, was one of nine candidates linked to the Patriots' offensive coordinator vacancy. With him no longer available, the field has been reduced to six potential coaches.
Former Patriots tight ends coach Nick Caley, also a member of the Rams' coaching staff last year, is one of the top candidates. The 41-year-old is scheduled to have an in-person interview with the Patriots and their new head coach, Jerod Mayo, on Sunday.
In addition to Caley, the Patriots have also conducted interviews with Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, Detroit Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury, and ex-Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
The search for an offensive coordinator has been a priority for the Patriots since their previous coordinator, Josh McDaniels, left to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. The team is eager to find the right fit to lead their offense and work alongside newly appointed head coach Jerod Mayo.
With Robinson, as well as Shane Waldron and Dan Pitcher, no longer in the picture for the Patriots, Waldron and Pitcher have secured offensive coordinator positions with the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively.
The New England Patriots are determined to find an offensive coordinator who can help elevate their offensive game and support their goal of returning to Super Bowl contention. As the search continues, all eyes will be on the remaining candidates as they vie for this prestigious coaching role.
