In a series of roster moves, the Los Angeles Chargers have made some changes to their lineup. The team has activated wide receiver Jalen Guyton and defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia from Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform. However, in corresponding moves, they have placed wide receiver Joshua Palmer on Reserve/Injured and waived defensive lineman Christopher Hinton.
Jalen Guyton, who led the AFC and ranked third in the NFL in 2020 with a receiving average of 18.8 yards per catch, is now back in action for the Chargers. The talented wide receiver showcased his ability to make explosive plays last season, with four receptions of 50-plus yards over a two-year period, which ranked among the best in the league. In his career with the Chargers, Guyton has recorded 61 catches for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns in 38 games, including 11 starts. His return to the team after being placed on Reserve/Injured in the early part of the 2022 season brings a boost to their receiving corps.
Joining Guyton is Otito Ogbonnia, a rookie defensive lineman who appeared in seven games last season, making one start. In that time, he tallied 14 tackles, including 13 solo tackles, and a tackle for loss. The Chargers drafted Ogbonnia in the fifth round (160th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft from UCLA. During his college career, he played in 43 games, amassing 79 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 8.5 tackles for loss. Ogbonnia's performance in his senior year earned him second-team All-Pacific-12 honors and an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl. His versatility on the defensive line will provide valuable depth for the Chargers.
Unfortunately, in order to make room for Guyton and Ogbonnia, the Chargers had to make some difficult decisions. Wide receiver Joshua Palmer has been placed on Reserve/Injured, meaning he will not be available for the foreseeable future. Additionally, the team has waived defensive lineman Christopher Hinton.
These roster moves signify the Chargers' commitment to optimizing their squad and finding the right combination of players to excel on the field. With the return of Jalen Guyton and the addition of Otito Ogbonnia, they strengthen their offense and defense, respectively. As the season progresses, fans eagerly anticipate the impact these new additions will have on the team's performance.
