Title: Geno Smith to Collect Fully Guaranteed $12.7 Million Contract with Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has been informed that he will retain his spot on the team's roster through this week, according to sources close to the situation. This news comes as Smith's contract, which includes a $12.7 million base salary for the upcoming season, is set to become fully guaranteed on Friday.

Originally, Smith's contract only guaranteed the $12.7 million in case of injury when he signed his three-year, $75 million deal last March. However, with the escalating salaries of starting quarterbacks in today's market, the Seahawks decided to honor the guarantee as they view Smith's value.

Although Smith will collect his guaranteed salary, his future with the Seahawks remains uncertain. The team has the option to trade him before March 18, casting doubt on his long-term status in Seattle. Additionally, Smith is also scheduled to receive a $9.6 million roster bonus on March 18, along with a $200,000 workout bonus.

In terms of overall earnings, Smith is set to make $22.5 million in 2024, placing him 18th among quarterbacks according to Spotrac.com. Furthermore, his salary cap charge for the next season ranks 12th among quarterbacks, totaling $31.2 million as reported by OverTheCap.com.

Despite the possibility of being traded, Smith's performance on the field was notable last season, earning him a second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. He threw for 3,624 yards, recorded 20 touchdowns, and had only nine interceptions.

As the Friday deadline approaches, Geno Smith prepares to secure his fully guaranteed $12.7 million contract while awaiting the Seahawks' decision on his future in Seattle.
