According to a report from NOLA.com's Jeff Duncan, the Denver Broncos are set to bring in former longtime Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. While his exact role is yet to be determined, Carmichael is expected to take on a senior offensive assistant position and reunite with head coach Sean Payton. The official announcement of the hiring is expected to be made at a later date.

Carmichael has been a part of the Saints coaching staff since 2006 when Payton hired him as a quarterback's coach to mentor the newly signed Drew Brees. After serving as quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator, Carmichael took over as the team's offensive coordinator in 2009, a role he held until 2023. However, he was fired by the Saints a few weeks ago, paving the way for his reunion with Payton in Denver.

During Carmichael's tenure as offensive coordinator, the Saints put up solid numbers on the offensive side. Last season, the team ranked 9th in scoring offense, 14th in total offense, 11th in passing yards, 21st in rushing offense, 15th in 3rd down efficiency, and 18th in red zone efficiency. His track record as an offensive coach is seen as valuable for a Broncos offense that needs improvement.

The decision to hire Carmichael was not unexpected, given his long-standing relationship with Payton. The two have enjoyed success together in the past, making the move to reunite in Denver a logical one. With the potential addition of a rookie quarterback in the upcoming offseason, Carmichael's experience and expertise could prove vital in their development.

While some may question the Broncos' decision to bring in yet another former Saints coach, it appears to be a calculated move. Payton likely wants to surround himself with a staff he is comfortable with, consisting of individuals he can trust to execute his vision. With Carmichael's extensive history of success alongside Payton, the hope is that their partnership will continue to thrive in Denver, regardless of the role Carmichael assumes.

As the Broncos gear up for the upcoming season, the addition of Pete Carmichael as a senior offensive assistant brings optimism for the team's offensive performance. With his proven track record and the familiarity between him and Payton, the hope is that this move will contribute to the Broncos' resurgence on the offensive side of the ball.
