FRISCO, TX - Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will return to the sideline on Sunday evening, only four days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. McCarthy, who had been experiencing stomach pain which he initially attributed to a stomach virus, discovered it was his appendix that caused the discomfort.

McCarthy expressed his surprise at the diagnosis, stating, "It wasn't on my right side. I had a rough night - on Monday and Tuesday night. On Wednesday, I came in early and had [head athletic trainer Jim Maurer] look at it, so we ran over to the hospital to have it scanned and make sure everything was fine."

Following successful surgery, McCarthy has now fully recovered and has been medically cleared to resume his coaching duties without any additional follow-up appointments scheduled.

The head coach acknowledged the inherent risk of being on the sideline instead of in the coaches' box but injected some humor into the situation, saying, "I'll probably need to get the bigger assistants standing next to me than I currently have, but I'll definitely be in touch with that." He emphasized that precautions would be taken to ensure his safety during the game.

McCarthy expressed his gratitude for the support system he has in Dallas, which includes experienced coordinators who managed meetings and practice in his absence. He also praised the leadership of players like Dak Prescott and DeMarcus Lawrence, who ensured that the team continued to operate smoothly during his recovery.

Looking ahead to the game against the Philadelphia Eagles, McCarthy shared his excitement at being back with his team. He has been fully engaged in the gameplan since his release from the hospital and is committed to leading the Cowboys to victory.

"I'm focused on doing my part on Sunday night. I need to do a hell of a job. We're all committed to this, and that's really where my mind is right now," McCarthy stated.

The Dallas Cowboys, led by Coach McCarthy, will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Despite his recent appendectomy, McCarthy is determined to be on the sideline, calling plays for his No. 1-ranked offense, alongside his enthusiastic team.

With their coach back in the game, the Cowboys are ready to give it their all and remain focused on their goal to secure a crucial victory on Sunday night.
