In a shocking turn of events, the NFL has taken swift action by placing Indianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree on the commissioner's exempt list following his arrest on domestic violence charges. The arrest took place in Hendricks County, Indiana, after an investigation into an altercation at a residence on Tuesday night.

According to jail records, Ogletree is facing two Level 6 felonies, namely domestic violence committed in the presence of a child under 16 years old and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury. These charges carry a maximum penalty of 2½ years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Ogletree remains in custody as of early Saturday afternoon with no bond set. The arrest came after Avon police officers responded to a domestic disturbance between Ogletree and a woman at a residence. The first officer on the scene reported that the woman was found in an upstairs bedroom, crying and in pain. She alleged that Ogletree "body slammed" her to the ground during an argument about messages found on his phone. Moreover, she claimed that Ogletree stood over her and uttered the chilling phrase, "They will never believe you." The incident occurred while the woman was on the phone with her sister, who promptly contacted the authorities.

An ambulance was called, and the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. Photographs of her injuries, including swelling on her back, were taken as evidence. Shockingly, this altercation occurred in the presence of Ogletree's young son.

After further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued on Thursday, leading Ogletree to turn himself in to the Hendricks County Jail on Friday. Following his arrest, the Indianapolis Colts released a statement expressing their concern over the allegations. They assured the public that they take such matters seriously and have already notified the NFL, while also mentioning their ongoing efforts to gather more information. The Colts declared that they would refrain from commenting further on the situation at this time.

Drew Ogletree, who was a sixth-round pick for the Colts in 2022, had his rookie season marred by a torn ACL that placed him on injured reserve. However, he has made an appearance in 12 games this season, where he caught nine passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. The tight end has been an active participant, featuring in 40% of the team's offensive snaps and 33% of special teams snaps.

Attempts to reach Ogletree's attorney for comment were unsuccessful, leaving further details about his legal defense unknown.

This troubling incident comes at a crucial time for the Indianapolis Colts, who are vying for a spot in the AFC playoffs. They have a key matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, and this unsettling news surrounding one of their players adds an additional layer of complexity to their postseason hopes. The organization now faces the challenge of not only navigating the legal proceedings but also managing the impact this situation may have on the team both on and off the field.
