In a devastating blow to the Colorado Buffaloes, quarterback Shedeur Sanders was injured during their 56-14 loss against Washington State on Friday. Sanders, the son of head coach Deion Sanders, suffered multiple setbacks during the game, contributing to the team's disappointing season and dashed hopes of playing in a bowl game.
During the game, Sanders endured heavy pressure from the Washington State defense, being sacked four times. He exited the game twice, once due to numbness in his hand, which impaired his ability to grip the ball. However, it was the second hit that ultimately led to his decision not to return to the field.
Deion Sanders expressed his concern for his son's well-being, stating, "He had some numbness in his hand and couldn't really grip the ball. But then that second hit he just got rolled up on. We decided not to send him back out." The decision to keep Sanders out of the game highlighted the severity of the quarterback's injuries.
The loss against Washington State marked the Buffaloes' fifth consecutive defeat, pushing them out of bowl eligibility and leaving them with a disappointing 4-7 overall record. The team's season started with great promise, captivating college football fans and raising expectations for a successful campaign.
Reflecting on the game, Shedeur Sanders expressed his disappointment, stating, "I'm very sad of how we played. We practiced hard this past week. We prepared, and to go and display a performance like that it's not indicative of who we are, what we are, how we are." Despite their best efforts in practice, the Buffaloes failed to translate their preparations into success on the field.
The game against Washington State started poorly for Colorado, with the team trailing 21-7 after the first quarter. Unfortunately, things only worsened in the second quarter as Washington State scored three more touchdowns with no response from the Buffaloes.
Sanders acknowledged the opponent's execution as a contributing factor to their defeat, stating, "That's not the recipe for a win. They executed early and executed often, and when they got Shedeur out of the game, it was tough sledding from then on."
Colorado's regular season will conclude on November 25 against Utah. However, with their bowl hopes crushed and the disappointment of a challenging season, the Buffaloes will now focus on regrouping and preparing for a better campaign in the future.
