In previous years, Cleveland has picked second overall on five occasions, selecting notable players such as Paul Shuey in 1992, Mark Lewis in 1988, Greg Swindell in 1986, Rick Manning in 1972, and Steve Dunning in 1970.

The Guardians' unexpected victory in the Draft Lottery propelled them to the forefront of speculation and anticipation for the upcoming draft. The Cincinnati Reds also experienced a significant leap in their draft position, defying their meager 0.9 percent chance of winning to secure the second overall pick.
