The National Football League (NFL) announced on Monday that Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been suspended without pay for four games due to multiple violations of unnecessary roughness rules.

Jackson's suspension comes after an incident during Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers where he delivered a hit to Packers tight end Luke Musgrave, who was considered a defenseless receiver. As a result, Jackson was disqualified from the game and flagged for a personal foul penalty.

In a letter to Jackson, NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan stated, "On the play in question, you delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of a defenseless receiver, when you had the time and space to avoid such contact. You could have made contact with your opponent within the rules, yet you chose not to."

This is not the first time Jackson has been penalized for personal fouls this season. In fact, prior to Sunday's hit, he had already been fined four times for illegal hits. One notable incident occurred during a Week 2 game against Washington, where he was also disqualified for a flagrant hit.

Sources tell NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero that Jackson is appealing the suspension. The outcome of the appeal process remains to be seen.

According to NFL Research, Jackson's four-game suspension is the longest for violating a player-safety rule since 2019 when Vontaze Burfict received a 12-game suspension for targeting, and Myles Garrett received a six-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct after swinging a helmet at Mason Rudolph.

If the suspension stands, Jackson will be eligible to return to the Broncos' active roster on Monday, November 27th, following the team's Week 12 game against the Cleveland Browns. The Broncos will have to make adjustments to their roster during Jackson's absence to ensure their defense remains strong.
