New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers hinted at a potential timeline for his return to the field after tearing his Achilles tendon. During his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers revealed that he could be back in a "few fortnights," which would roughly translate to six weeks.

Rodgers, who underwent surgery eight weeks ago, sparked speculation about his return following the Jets' recent loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Caught on camera during postgame handshakes, Rodgers told Chargers safety Derwin James that he plans to play in "a few weeks," causing the video to go viral.

However, Rodgers later downplayed his comment, stating that he was joking with James, whom he shares the same agency with. Acknowledging the unrealistic nature of a two-week return, Rodgers dropped the hint of "fortnights" for a possible six-week recovery. If he sticks to this timeline, Rodgers could be back on the field by Christmas week when the Jets face the Washington Commanders on December 24.

An Achilles injury typically requires a much longer recovery period for NFL players, making a six-week return unprecedented. Nonetheless, Rodgers, 39, has consistently expressed his desire to play again this season. Prior to a recent game, he impressed onlookers by launching 55-yard passes to a team staffer, showcasing his ability to use his legs for longer throws. Additionally, he demonstrated crossover steps for the first time since the injury.

When questioned about Rodgers' projected timeline, Jets coach Robert Saleh refrained from commenting on any specific information shared between them. He did, however, acknowledge Rodgers' dedication towards returning to the field, saying, "I'm not going to say anything that he's told me, but I do know if he's working really hard to get back here."

However, Rodgers emphasized that his return would not be solely his own decision. He would need to be cleared by doctors, and the Jets would have to weigh the risks and rewards of his potential comeback.

While Rodgers has not set a specific timetable, he did mention the possibility of returning to practice at some point. He highlighted the need to reach certain markers in his recovery process and attain clearance from the medical team before stepping back on the field.

Entering what he refers to as the "danger zone" of his recovery, Rodgers is cautious about pushing too hard and risking a setback. The eight- to 12-week period is crucial for the final healing stage of his tendon. Currently, he is walking without crutches but has not started jogging yet.

Rodgers also emphasized that the Jets' playoff hopes would impact his decision to return this season. With the offense struggling and only scoring eight touchdowns thus far, the team would need to remain in playoff contention for him to consider a comeback. The Jets, currently standing at 4-4, will need to stay competitive as Rodgers prioritizes his health and mobility in order to make an impact on the field.

As Rodgers continues his recovery journey, the NFL and New York Jets fans eagerly await updates on his progress and eventual return to action.
