In a recent development, renowned actress Susan Sarandon has been dropped from an upcoming short film titled "Slipping Away" after making controversial antisemitic statements. The co-founder of the production company, PTO Films, confirmed the decision, asserting that Sarandon's views do not align with their organization's values.
David Barroso, co-founder of PTO Films, spoke with Page Six, stating, "As a company, PTO Films would like to make it clear that Susan Sarandon's views do not reflect the opinions of our organization. We were considering her for a short film, but due to her recent statements, we have decided to pursue other options."
"Slipping Away," which had previously been listed on Sarandon's IMDb page, has now been removed. It remains uncertain if Sarandon's involvement in her other upcoming productions will be affected. Currently, she is attached to four other projects, three of which are in post-production and one that is still in pre-production.
Sarandon faced backlash for her remarks made during a pro-Palestine rally in New York City. Her specific comment, deemed antisemitic, was, "There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country."
Following the incident, Sarandon was swiftly dropped by her talent agency, UTA. In an attempt to address the controversy, the actress issued an apology, acknowledging that her phrasing was a "terrible mistake."
The repercussions of Sarandon's remarks continue to impact her career, highlighting the consequences of public figures facing consequences for controversial statements. As the entertainment industry continues to confront issues of discrimination and prejudice, it is evident that there is no room for hate speech or societal divisions.
