In a tragic turn of events, details about the final days of beloved "Friends" star Matthew Perry have begun to emerge. The actor, known for his role as Chandler Bing in the iconic sitcom, passed away on October 28. It has been revealed that Kenny Iwamasa, a 59-year-old Japanese man and longtime assistant to Perry, was the person who discovered the late entertainer unresponsive in a hot tub.
Perry and Iwamasa had been living together in a luxurious Beverly Hills rental home for over a year while Perry's own Pacific Palisades residence was undergoing renovations. The duo resided in the three-bedroom hillside property, which boasted stunning views of Beverly Hills and the ocean. The actor was paying a monthly rent of $49,000 for the upscale dwelling.
The landlord of the Beverly Hills home, John Malakzad, mentioned that he had never personally met Perry but described him as a "good tenant" who had moved out a couple of weeks before his untimely death. While Perry was living in Beverly Hills, his executive PA, Kenny Iwamasa, was there to assist him and monitor his wellbeing.
Unfortunately, Perry's other assistant, Briana Brancato, had left his side a few months prior to his passing to pursue a career as a personal trainer. As a result, Iwamasa was likely the one who discovered Perry's lifeless body in the hot tub. Photos had previously circulated of Iwamasa driving Perry around Los Angeles and carrying out errands for the actor.
The official death certificate of the 54-year-old actor listed the cause of death as "deferred," leaving many questioning the circumstances surrounding his passing. The document explained that investigations and toxicology reports were pending, preventing a definitive conclusion regarding the cause of death. Perry had a history of substance abuse, but his close friends assured that he had been in a state of sobriety at the time of his death.
To pay their respects, Perry's loved ones released an emotional statement expressing their heartbreak over his loss. The statement also mentioned that the actor was laid to rest at Forest Lawn in Los Angeles, California, according to his step-father Keith Morrison, who served as the informant on the death certificate.
Perry's former "Friends" co-stars also issued a joint statement, expressing their devastation and emphasizing that they were more than just castmates - they were a family. They requested privacy to grieve and process the immense loss they have experienced.
As investigations continue and toxicology reports are awaited, fans of Matthew Perry and the entertainment industry as a whole mourn the loss of a talented actor and cherished member of the "Friends" family.
